On May, 27, 1942, U.S. Navy seaman Dorie Miller became the first African American to receive the Navy Cross when he was honored for his heroism at Pearl Harbor. A Messman Third Class at the time of the attack, Miller leapt into action during the battle. This poster honoring him is part of our collection.
